{ a collective party and magical concrete }

Today is “la fête des voisins “in France. Which approximately means neighbors' party … It was first launched in 2000 . Then it gets bigger, as years fly . The concept now disseminates in all the country … even in small villages ..
The principle is simple and basic : people from a same neighborhood organize a gathering around a buffet, a late picnic or a cocktail … The rule is just to bring something to drink and eat, to share with everyone . I remember, years ago, when still living in toulouse, I had the greatest time with people living right next to me, but who were still “strangers” to me at this time … you should have seen the spectacle on almost kilometer-long improvised white tables, lots of food, laughs and music …
Isn’t it a great initiative ? We do have some other “citizen meeting occasions” , that become very popular and now are some sort of tradition …
We personally won’t join the party this year as we have other plans :) But I wanted to share it with you .

I recently stumbled upon this magical, aerial and ethereal creation … It is called Solid Poetry (isn’t that a cool name ? ) …and this new kind of concrete reveals a pattern once wet. A beautiful pattern, which will disappear again once the concrete is dry… I told you ravishing and magical.

Designed by two grad students, from The Design Academy, Susanne Happle and Frederik Molenschot, "Solid Poetry" was their graduation project.

I will try to convice the town mayor to invest in some of these great concrete tiles … At least for my street sidewalks …

La fete des voisins sounds like a great idea. They were'nt doing this when we lived in France.Too bad.
Sometimes her we do 'block parties' but I don't think it's quite the same.
Great concrete tiles!

Dear Sadine, what an amazing tradition. I kind of wish we had that here but then again, there are some neighbors I would rather hide from:-) Absolutely love that concrete. I have been thinking about making some cool tiles for a garden walkway and feel very inspired now. Oh, tell your hubby if he wants my green complexion he better eat alot of sea weed!! It's been a busy week with our darlings. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier.
